sSig_welcome To the Juicing Section  sSig_welcome

Bubbbles, Rita and I were talking about juicing in my little intro thread so I thought we'd put it out here in the general eye so we can all get on board.

Please, everyone, feel free to talk about anything juicy here  sSig_jk  OK, maybe anything to do with juicing raw foods.  Phew - that's better defined  sHa_tongue

I'll just start by saying that my favourite juice now for weeks and weeks has been grapes, celery and passionfruit.  Actually it would have been late January when I started drinking these and have had between 1 and 2 meals per day, almost every day, of exactly this.  Soooo yummy.

Bubbbles was talking about juicing non=sweet fruits.  I did do a small cucumber once but for some reason didn't carry this on.  Thank you for the reminder Bubbbles!!!

Does anyone have any advice on juicing green leaves?  I tried once but it seemed to jam up the holes in the juice strainer.  I would love to juice spinach for example, but don't want to have to dismantle the juicer several time to unblock it.  Any suggestions out there?

Love and thanks,
CareBear

Hi CareBear,

I suppose with the juicing of greens really depends on the type of juicer you have.

I found that when I had one of the centrifugal juicers, I had to dismantle the juicer more often than with the Oscar I have (which isn't a centrifugal juicer....it masticates, if that makes any sense to you?!!!  I suppose the best way to describe it is it "squeezes" the juice out of the greens)

The combinations I have are:

I love pineapple, beetroot and ginger.

I love apple, pineapple, spinach and ginger

I love apple, cucumber and alfalfa

I love apple, pear and ginger.

I love rockmelon

There are others, but I can't remember them all at the moment.

Your juice sounds DELISH, CareBear.  That will be something I will try when I get some passionfruit.

Take care

Luv

Yummmmmm thank you for those Rita, I shall try them all in the near future.

I have a masticating juicer too (and a centrifugal, but I don't use that one).  Masticate just means chew if you look it up in a dictionary, but it's certainly an interesting word huh?  I always put my pulp back through the machine several times - about 6 times I think - because it's always soooo wet when it comes through.  In fact I get as much juice from subsequent juicings as I do from the first.  So one small cup from the first go through and then another small cup from repeating the next 5 rounds.  Once the pulp is dry enough that I feel I have everything I can, I give the pulp to my dog and she loves it.

I'd never thought to juice alfalfa, that's fascinating.

After meeting your passionfruit we bought 2 vines and have planted them in our garden.  We've had 2 fruit off one vine which were packed full of delicious sweetness.  There are 4 more on the vine but I'm not sure if they'll ripen or not now.  We were told none would for the first fruiting so were lucky with the 2.

Love and Hugs
